Trainer Talk Tuesday: Traveling

I've had a lot of clients ask me recently about what to do for workouts when traveling. Here's some easy ideas to keep your healthy habits going!

  1. Bring some dumbbells! If you're not traveling by plane just throw in a set of dumbbells in the trunk along with your workout shoes and you're set! There are so many exercises you can do with just 1 or 2 dumbbells. Here's just a few: weighted sit ups, weighted torso twists, renegade rows, lateral raises, snatches, thrusters, presses and weighted jumping jacks.
  2. Check out the hotel gym! Most hotels have gyms and if the equipment isn't listed on their site, call. Ask what equipment/classes they have and when the busiest times are.
  3. Body weight exercises are numerous and you can do them right in your hotel room. Here's just a few: tricep dips, push ups, jumping jacks, squats, lunges, sit ups, torso twists, mountain climbers, burpees, handstands against the wall and wall sits.
  4. Running shoes are all you need to get outside and enjoy some new scenery! Take a walk, go for a run, hit up a park and utilize those benches. They aren't for resting! Try push ups, tricep dips, step ups and toe tappers. Just make sure you know the area - my directionally challenged self has gotten lost a few times running on vacation. :)
Get creative and get it done!
