Things You Should Know Thursday

There are so many different reasons why people choose to not exercise. As a matter of fact, check out this 1 minute video and see if you can relate to any of them! :)
If you've ever worked out hard then taken the stairs at work and felt every single squat with every single step or felt every single tricep dip when you tried to shampoo your hair...you have experienced muscle soreness. Rather than use that soreness as an excuse to quit, I thought you should know what it is and why it's happening.
The following article from Scientific American does a great job explaining lactic acid and delayed onset muscle soreness. Please take just a few minutes to read it over. The article does mention anti-inflammatory drugs as a way to help with muscle soreness but also states it can slow the bodies ability to rebuild that muscle. I always recommend hot showers or baths then stretching, drinking half your body weight in ounces of water daily, getting a massage, getting adjusted, using Bio Freeze or Icy Hot and even Epsom Salts in your bath if it's really uncomfortable.  Make sure you're warming up and cooling down properly when working out as well.

I don't believe in the phrase "No pain, no gain". Pain is much different than soreness. It's your body telling you to stop and that something is wrong. Make sure you listen to your body and know the difference.
