Trainer Talk Tuesday: Jeanie & Kevin

Kevin and Jeanie just turned 51 this year. Thanks to some encouragement from family, they started Crossfit Ankeny July 11. It was their first time ever joining a gym. Kevin was a competitive middle distance runner in high school and ran for exercise most of his life. Jeanie started walking about 5 years ago, 3-5 miles a day, 6-7 days/week. Neither had lifted weights.
Watching Kevin and Jeanie consistently show up at Crossfit, give it their all and make huge improvements in their lifestyle is more than inspiring.

Jeanie recently had to go care for her mother and knew she'd be missing her regular Crossfit classes. She asked me to give her some workout ideas and I gave her as  many as I could think of with minimal to no equipment. I also asked her to post or email her workouts for accountability. The emails and pictures I have received are amazing! Jeanie and Kevin have turned a 35 lb piece of railroad rail into overhead lunges and buckets and wrenches into kettlebells. They have found a gym to workout at and are the talk of the town with their treadmill handwalks and pullups. My favorite email was from Jeanie stating how her workout that day was lifting and caring for her mother. At 51 years old Jeanie is more than capable of helping her mother in whatever capacity she's needed. She is not limited physically and sometimes even gets a workout in after a taxing day lifting and various tasks she needs to accomplish.

It's never to late to learn something new and to change your lifestyle for the better. When you stop and put your health first, you are suddenly able to care for others at your fullest capacity. Jeanie and Kevin are living proof and I am privileged to be their coach!
