Trainer Talk Tuesday: Goal Setting Challenge

A goal without a deadline is simply a dream. I meet a lot of people who can tell me what they "used to be able to do" and what they "wished they looked like". The one thing separating them from doing those things and improving their body composition are goals and a plan!

I encourage you today to sit down and try this simple activity.

1. Write down 2-3 things you'd like to improve your nutrition, fitness and/or body composition.
2. Prioritize them by putting them in order from most important to least (hint: you can't out-train bad nutrition so if that needs a lot of work it comes BEFORE fitness).
3. List action steps next to each goal. For example: if your goal is to eat less sugar your action steps could be; rid the pantry of sugary temptations, plan meals/snacks the day before in a food journal.
4. Once you have your goals prioritized and some actions steps for each one put dates by them. Your goals must have a deadline. Some can be short term and some long term, just be as specific as you can be. "Summer 2013" is ok but "July 14, 2013" is even better.
5. Place your goals, action steps and deadlines in a visible location to hold yourself accountable.
6. Get after it!!!
